AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS

Auto Accident Overview

Auto accidents often cause injury. Commonly, people may suffer soft tissue injuries, whether as a result of being rear-ended or other types of St. Louis auto accidents. These types of personal injuries are often difficult to diagnose and require specialized treatment to heal. Untreated, soft tissue injuries can lead to a lifetime of pain.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT:

Do not leave the scene of an accident.
Call the police and or medical assistance if someone is injured. DO NOT allow anyone to simply give you insurance information and tell you that "they'll take care of it." If they are at fault, you want a police report reporting the facts. If the police will not come to the scene, make a police report immediately with the local police department of the city where the accident occurred. Seek medical attention if you are injured. If you do not begin experiencing pain until later (which is common) seek medical attention as soon as you realize you need it. If you wait too long, the insurance companies will question whether your injuries are related to your accident.

Obtain information from other driver(s) involved in the accident:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Drivers license number (including expiration date)
  • License plate number
  • Insurance information, including the insurance policy number
  • If the vehicle involved is not owned by the driver, get the same information for the owner of the vehicle
  • Get names, phone numbers and addresses of all witnesses;
  • Do not give a statement to anyone but the police at the scene.
  • DO NOT give a statement to any insurance adjuster or agent before speaking to an attorney. Insurance adjusters record your statement in order to use it against you at a later time. They are NOT trying to assist you.
  • CALL OUR ST. LOUIS OFFICE to ensure that your rights are protected.
