Any professional can be negligent in performing his or her duties and this negligence is usually referred to as professional malpractice. While it is most often thought of in terms of medical malpractice, any licensed or regulated professional can be negligent.
Basically, professional malpractice is simply negligence judged by the standards of a reasonable and experienced practitioner of that profession. Attorneys are judged by the standards of their profession, as are doctors, accountants, engineers and others.
